Ed Wood’s Sucky Movie to Get Suckier Remake

Call me blind, but part of me loves the original “Plan 9 from Outer Space.” Sure, it’s badly filmed, badly written, badly acted, badly shot, badly edited, badly scored and (probably) badly catered, but Ed Wood’s got heart, something most directors who had more money to fuck around with than Wood did couldn’t muster if they bought enough blood from their starving teenage assistants.

So this news about a remake by Darkstone Productions has got me more than a little miffed.

The movie’s website, Plan9Movie.com, claims they will give the movie a darker, harder horror edge to help achieve what Mr. Wood could not. I don’t want the movie to have a harder edge. I like it’s soft crustiness the way it is, all doughy and loose and stuffed with pure cheese.

The site also claims the new movie will be more “character-driven,” which isn’t just a step up from the original film. It’s like moving up to first class after spending half the flight in the cargo hold.

The film has the blessing of Conrad Brooks, the last surviving cast member of the original film, so maybe it won’t be so bad, and by bad, I mean so bad, it’s good.
