Holy Smurf! Get Ready to Smurf in Your Smurfs at the “Smurfs” Movie

Those cute little adorable creatures that were a staple of every child of the 80s’ Saturday morning cartoon diet are about to be ripped apart and torn limb from tiny blue limb by the most destructive force known to human kind - Hollywood.

A big screen remake of “The Smurfs” is in the works, according to Variety.

The story states that…

Sony obtained film rights to the blue-colored characters from Lafig Belgium via Jordan Kerner (”Charlotte’s Web”), who is producing. David Stem and David Weiss, who wrote the second and third installments in the “Shrek” franchise, are in negotiations to pen the screenplay.

They didn’t even ask the guy who wrote the first “Shrek” movie, the only decent “Shrek” movie, if he wanted a crack at this? That’s worse than asking the guy who wrote “Breakin’ 2: Electric Bugaloo” and not asking the guy who wrote the first “Breakin’” movie.

The film will feature a combination of live action and CGI effects, so it’s safe to assume the Smurfs will all be fake and Gargamel will be real. But who should play the evil bald freak who seemingly wants to destroy the Smurfs for absolutely so plausible reason?

Well, here’s the real Gargamel…

And here’s our side by side comparison picks for who will play the real version of him. First, there’s Adrian Brody…

Kevin Spacey would make a nice fit.

Of course, they could go with a much bolder choice - the reanimated corpse of former senator Strom Thurmond.

What do you think? Who would make the best live action Gargamel in the “Smurfs” remake? Post your suggestions in the Comments below and we’ll pick the best ones for a future entry. The winner will have the privilege of not seeing the “Smurfs” remake when it comes out in 2010.
