Oh the remakes are abounding this season like sunflowers sprouting up in a late afternoon spring sunshine. How were so many of those sunflowers able to grow? Let’s just say manure makes a great fertilizer.

Here’s the breakdown:

00:27 - The first shot of the famous “Mach 5″ comes into frame racing down a futuristic highway at top speed. It turns the corner as it heads down the final lap. Then suddenly it crashes and begins to burn! Oh no! The humanity! (We’re not talking about the Mach 5. We mean this is the point when the movie crashes and burns. Darn trailers always spoil the plot.)

00:49 - The film stops acting like a coming of age film for people with insomnia and kicks high gear into a rave for people with epilepsy with Speed Racer pounding the throttle, the Mach 5’s tires screeching and a pulse pounding techno soundtrack pumping in the background as the car speeds down a colorful neon speedway. Since when did Speed Racer ever do crystal meth?

01:32 - Emile Hirsch who stars as Speed says, “Racing’s the only thing I know how to do and I gotta do something.” Couldn’t you just try acting better?
