Screen Gems Sinking Its Gold Teeth Into Austen’s “Emma”
I don’t pretend to understand everything about the hip-hop universe. I listen to some of its music, enjoy its stories and appreciate the mark it has left on the world. I’m sure the world’s greatest writers and artists would have the same attitude if they were alive today by leaving it the hell alone.
According to Variety, Screen Gems is remaking Jane Austen’s “Emma” into a hip-hop musical.
This is a bigger insult to the Jane Austen name since “Jane Austen’s Mafia!”
The film will take place at an inner city high school and surround a stepbrother and stepsister because people haven’t picked up and read a book since 1923.
The director said he came up with the idea for the film after he saw a Lil Mama video. That sounds about right. After all, William Shakespeare came up with the plot for “The Tempest” after he heard a performance by Ol’ Bardy Bastard.
